We often discuss (or complain about) lesson planning and meetings, but what about time spent grading? We’ve all done it – thrown that tall pile of papers to grade in the recycling! Thankfully, AI is here to lighten the load. Educators can spend less time on paperwork and more time connecting with their students using these FREE pro tips.
1. Create rubrics
Teachers can use AI to make rubrics by inputting the assignment type, defining criteria, setting performance levels, customizing descriptions, and providing feedback. It takes about 30 seconds to create a rubric like this one:
2. Analyze student performance
AI can collect and detect patterns in your data. You can even create learner profiles that outline strengths and needs! All you need to do is upload a spreadsheet or paste your data into a chat with AI. You can ask AI to analyze anything specific that you’re curious about.
3. Write feedback
This one is gold! You can attach a completed assignment or rubric, and AI will provide feedback for the student. Simply fill out a form that looks like the below on Magic School AI. The feedback is specific and actionable for students!
4. Peer review
To completely take the load off the teacher, you can use AI to encourage peer review and assessment. AI can generate peer review checklists, feedback examples, and answer keys.

ChatGPT can check student work for grammar mistakes, clarity, tone, structure and more! As students get older, it’s important to check that their work is truly their own. You can easily do this by using platforms like Grammarly, Quetext, and more. Most have free versions that get the job done easily by comparing your student’s work to other sources. You will have peace of mind after utilizing this AI feature!
8. Evaluate video submissions
If students are submitting a video or audio assignment, AI can assess spoken language! Right on ChatGPT, you can upload a video file with information about the assignment and what you’d like to be assessed. You can suggest feedback on pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, coherence, etc. AI will transcribe the spoken content, analyze it, and give specific feedback for improvement. This leaves you free to grade other work or maybe even leave school at contract hours!
