We all know exercise is important for general health and wellbeing – both physical and mental. Most of us also know it’s a hard habit to make, especially for busy and exhausted teachers. However, there are plenty of apps available that coach you through a quick workout in under ten minutes – and, yes, few minutes of movement is better than none. Even better? Down Dog is making their apps free for students and teachers through July 2021. You’re going to want to snag these free exercise apps and recommend it to your students and teacher friends.
Down Dog free yoga app
I’ve been paying for this app for about two years and it’s been worth every penny. I love being able to take a yoga class whenever and wherever I want with instructions from my phone. My favorite part about this app is how customizable each session is. You choose:
- Body area you want to concentrate on
- Instructor (male or female)
- Type of background music
- Length of workout (from 5 minutes to 90 minutes)
- And more
The instructor walks you through each move, both visually and verbally. It’s great for beginners with more advanced options for experienced yogis.
Other free exercise apps from Down Dog
In addition to the free yoga app, Down Dog has several other exercise apps.
- Prenatal yoga
- HIIT
- Barre
- 7-Minute Workout
And they are ALL FREE for teachers and students until July 2021.
I also have the paid version of Down Dog Barre and love that I can adjust the workout in a way that going to a class in person or turning on a traditional video doesn’t allow. You choose the body area to focus on, length of workout, and how long you want to hold each pose. It feels great to be able to work at a pace and level you design yourself.
How to sign up for these free exercise apps
- Anyone who signs up with a .edu email from the app store will automatically have free access until July 1st
- Students and teachers (K-12 and colleges) can also sign up at https://www.downdogapp.com/schools
Know any healthcare workers? It’s also free for them until July 2021! They can sign up HERE.
These free exercise apps are great to do on your own, but you can also incorporate yoga or other exercises into the day with your students. Or invite other teachers to do yoga with you outside on the grass after school. You’ll be amazed at how quickly your body and mind feel better with just a few minutes of exercise a day.
