Sam Hampson, a 24-year-old from Manchester, England, started the Eden School Project in October 2014. After a life-changing visit to Eastern Africa, he decided to start the project to raise money to provide food, school supplies, and soccer balls for the children of the mountainous Lake Bunyonyi region in Uganda.

The response from the kids was so overwhelming, he returned to the UK to fundraise enough money to build them a school. After a few months, he took a month off work to go build the 5-classroom school, now known as Eden School.

The school now provides basic education to over 300 overjoyed and bright-smiling kids, many of whom are orphans.

“Between November 2014 and March 2015 I had £5000 in donations from over 200 people across the globe.“

The school doesn’t receive any funding from local government, yet relies on its £5/per term tuition from the families of each child, to pay its teachers and provide basic classroom materials for the students.

“Occasionally, donations of food, materials, supplies and even sometimes cash from passing visitors.”

The teachers at Eden School are paid £50 per month!
