It’s that time of the year again! If you’re teaching virtually or utilizing a Bitmoji classroom in person too, you HAVE to jump on the Halloween Bitmoji classroom craze. Teachers are surprising students with spooky features that engage students in a brand new way this school year! Some are adding Halloween decor while others are including links to Halloween read alouds in their Bitmoji classrooms. You just can’t go wrong!
Here are 10 creative ways to prepare your Bitmoji classroom for Halloween week!
1. Set-up your basic Bitmoji classroom following the directions here
Once you have your basic classroom needs displayed, you can start adding on the Halloween fun!
2. Get inspired! Check out how these teachers transformed their Bitmoji classrooms.
3. Switch out your usual classroom rug for a Halloween rug!
Click on the usual rug and delete it, if you have one. In Google Slides, click Insert > Image > Search the Web > search “black and orange rug” or “Halloween doormat” > click an image you like> Insert image!
Tip: If you can’t find a rug or mat you like through the search engine on Google Slides, you can also just google an image and copy and paste it into your Bitmoji classroom.
4. Add in all the pumpkins!
Similar to Step 3, you’ll click Insert > Image > Search the web > search “pumpkins” and click the images you’d like to insert.
Activity Idea: Encourage students to try to count all the pumpkins in your Bitmoji classroom! On the computer screen in your classroom, insert a text box that prompts students to count the pumpkins! Click Insert > Text Box > type out the directions.
5. Insert banners around the Bitmoji classroom.
Click Insert > Image > Search the web > search “halloween banners” > select the image you like > Insert image!
6. Add a Halloween-inspired calendar display!
For this image, you’ll find better choices if you just search for October 2020 calendars on a regular google image search. Copy and paste the image you like into your Bitmoji classroom.
7. The best part about a virtual classroom is that you can have CANDLES!
Is there anything better than a fall-scented candle? Google search “orange candles clipart” and copy the image you like to paste into your Bitmoji classroom. You may also need a candle stand so that your candle isn’t floating! If so, you’ll want to search “stool,” which you can easily do on Google Slides by clicking Insert > Image > Search the web > search “stool” > select the image you like.
Tip: In a regular google search, if you click “Tools” > “Color” > “Transparent” your image search will narrow down to images that don’t have a colored background.
8. Add Halloween books to your bookshelves!
Find Halloween books that’ll interest your students. A good place to start is this spooky season book list that covers all grade levels. Copy the book covers you’d like to feature and paste the images to your Bitmoji classroom.
Tip: Link the images of the books to an actual read aloud of it on Youtube!
9. Add your Bitmoji
Click the Bitmoji extension icon in the top right of your window. Search “Halloween” and choose the Bitmoji you’d like to insert.
10. Finalize your Halloween Bitmoji classroom with any other added images you’d like!
To share out with families, you’ll want to copy the link of the google slides and share the link with families and students. To make sure they don’t edit anything to your classroom, change the ending of the link to “preview” instead of “edit.” Then share the copied link!
Your final product will look something like this:
Students get so excited to see the changes to their bitmoji classrooms, so this will certainly be a fun and spooky way to engage students the week of Halloween! You could even consider adding in a different Halloween activity linked within the bitmoji classroom each day of Halloween week!
