The best way to hook students into a lesson is to relate content to their interests. It’s no secret that the latest craze is Wicked! So why not incorporate Wicked into your lesson plans? This time of year, teachers will do anything to engage students in new learning!
Here are 8 ways to incorporate Wicked into the Classroom.
1. Brain breaks
Help students refocus with free Wicked brain breaks on YouTube!
2. Themed real-world math
In this freebie from Katie Briar, students budget a shopping menu using basic math operations.
3. Decorate the classroom
Practice teamwork by asking students to help create a fun themed door for the classroom.
4. Pixel art
If you haven’t had students do pixel art on a spreadsheet yet, you’re missing out! This movie-themed version is even more exciting!
5. Reader’s theater
Wicked Active Learning website has a ton of free resources, including reader’s theater scripts from different parts of the musical. Students will love to get in character and act these out!
6. Design a Wicked project
Assign students with the task of researching a woman who “defied gravity.” Extend the assignment by having students write a poem using the found information.
Another project idea could be to provide students with a quote from the musical and task them with analyzing it. We love, “Are people born wicked? Or do they have wickedness thrust upon them?” – Galinda
7. Study the composer: Stephen Schwartz
Incorporate music learning into the classroom with a research project on an amazing composer!
8. Wicked word search
Start your day with a word search! This also makes a great dismissal activity. Here’s a free themed word search.
After all this fun in the classroom, you might be tempted to do a class meet-up at the movie theater to view the musical together!
